## Houdini Linux Installation Research
Brief session focused on gathering installation guidance for SideFX Houdini on Linux. User requested installation to /mnt/work/ and provided the SideFX FAQ link. Fetched complete Linux installation instructions from official documentation.
Key findings: The installation process is interactive (requires sudo and component/licensing selection via installer GUI or terminal prompts). Installation tarball must be downloaded manually from sidefx.com (requires authentication). Default installation creates symlink at `/opt/hfs21.0` with launcher at `/opt/hfs/21.0/houdini_setup`. Important: do not place installer file in /root to avoid permission errors.
