OpenClaw Upstream Contribution Research

Nicholai initiated planning for a concrete upstream contribution to OpenClaw that either improves their memory pipeline foundation or ports useful patterns from Signet. The session focused on understanding OpenClaw's architecture and contribution protocols to propose a high-impact feature.

Initially deployed an Explore agent to investigate:

  • OpenClaw's memory-lancedb extension/plugin implementation (storage, search, creation patterns)
  • OpenClaw's plugin/extension architecture and registration APIs
  • Contribution guidelines (PR templates, CONTRIBUTING.md)
  • Memory-core base interfaces

The research phase aimed to understand OpenClaw's exact memory tool schemas, search implementations, and storage formats before proposing a contribution. Session was in early research/planning stages when conversation data ended.
