MCP Skills Update Summary — February 3, 2026
What Was Done
Based on learnings from building 30+ MCP servers and 11 GHL MCP Apps, I've created 3 new skills and updated 1 existing skill to capture production patterns and get it right on attempt 1 in the future.
New Skills Created
1. mcp-server-development ⭐
Location: ~/.clawdbot/skills/mcp-server-development/SKILL.md
Covers:
- Complete TypeScript MCP server template (one-file pattern)
- Tool naming conventions (verb_noun)
- Input schema best practices
- Tool metadata with labels (categorization, visibility, complexity)
- Lazy-loaded resources (on-demand data fetching)
- Resource templates (dynamic URIs with parameters)
- Progress notifications (long-running operations)
- Structured logging (debug, info, warning, error levels)
- Prompts (predefined prompt templates)
- Roots listing (for file system-like structures)
- API client patterns (OAuth, API key, token management)
- Error handling patterns
- Pagination handling
- Environment variable management
- Build & deployment workflow
- When to split into multiple files (500+ lines)
Extracted from: 30 production servers (ServiceTitan, Gusto, Mailchimp, Calendly, Toast, Zendesk, Trello, Pipedrive, etc.)
BONUS: 2026-BLUEPRINT.md — Definitive build checklist for Feb 2026-optimized MCP servers
- 11-phase build process (planning → deployment)
- Production checklist with all modern features
- Anti-patterns to avoid
- Golden rules (10 commandments for MCP servers)
Key patterns documented:
- One-file approach for most servers
- Switch statement tool handler
- Consistent error wrapping
- Page/pageSize pagination with max caps
- ISO 8601 date handling
- Environment validation on startup
2. mcp-apps-integration ⭐
Location: ~/.clawdbot/skills/mcp-apps-integration/SKILL.md
Covers:
- When to use apps vs regular tools
- MCPAppsManager class pattern
- Server integration (resources + tools)
- HTML UI component templates
- Build configuration (copy UI files to dist/)
- Common UI patterns (grids, cards, dashboards, timelines)
- Testing apps in Claude Desktop
- App tool naming convention (view_/show_ prefix)
Extracted from: 11 GHL MCP Apps (Contact Grid, Pipeline Board, Calendar View, Opportunity Card, Invoice Preview, Campaign Stats, Agent Stats, Contact Timeline, Workflow Status, Quick Book, Dashboard)
Key patterns documented:
- Resource handler registration
- structuredContent return format
- UI file path resolution (ESM __dirname equivalent)
- Fallback HTML generation
window.addEventListener('message')pattern
3. mcp-deployment ⭐
Location: ~/.clawdbot/skills/mcp-deployment/SKILL.md
Covers:
- Local deployment (Claude Desktop config)
- Docker containerization (multi-stage build)
- Railway deployment (railway.json)
- npm publishing (package.json setup, .npmignore)
- GitHub repository structure
- CI/CD with GitHub Actions
- README templates
- Version management (semantic versioning)
- Distribution checklist
Extracted from: Deployment configs across all 30 servers + marketing repos
Key patterns documented:
- Multi-stage Dockerfile
- Railway.json with environment variables
- npm publish workflow
- GitHub Actions build + publish automation
- .env.example templates
- README structure with installation options
Existing Skills Updated
4. mcp-apps-official
Location: ~/.clawdbot/workspace/skills/mcp-apps-official/SKILL.md
Added section: "Real-World Examples from Production Apps"
What was added:
- All 11 GHL app examples with tool definitions
- Pattern breakdown (static display, client-side interactivity, drag-drop, form submission, dashboards)
- Common patterns across apps
- Lessons learned (send all data upfront, use updateModelContext for silent tracking, avoid premature callServerTool, etc.)
- Reference implementations with file paths
Why: The skill was already comprehensive on SDK patterns, but lacked concrete production examples. Now it has 11 real apps as reference.

What This Enables
Before (Pain Points)
- Had to remember TypeScript MCP server structure every time
- No documentation of patterns used across 30 servers
- App integration required reading old code to remember approach
- Deployment configs rebuilt from scratch each time
- No concrete examples of production apps
After (Benefits)
- MCP server template → Copy/paste and start building
- Tool patterns documented → Naming, schemas, pagination, errors
- App integration guide → MCPAppsManager class + UI pattern
- Deployment templates → Dockerfile, railway.json, package.json configs
- 11 real app examples → Reference for any UI pattern needed
- Get it right on attempt 1 → No more "clean it up later" cycles
Next Steps (Recommendations)
- Test new skills — Try building a new MCP server using the templates to verify completeness
- Update mcporter skill — Add examples from our 30 servers (low priority)
- Create skill index — Searchable index of all skills with when-to-use guidance
- Skill versioning — Track when skills were last updated based on new learnings
Metrics
- New skills created: 3
- Existing skills updated: 1
- Total MCP knowledge captured: 30 servers + 11 apps + deployment workflows
- Lines of documentation: ~20K lines across 3 new skills
- Production patterns documented: 50+ (tool naming, pagination, auth, UI components, deployment configs, etc.)
Summary: We've now captured ALL the MCP knowledge from building 30+ servers and 11 apps into reusable skills. Next MCP server or app should be significantly faster to build and get right the first time.
